It’s been a VERY busy NeoCon East week for us at the Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland! Show traffic has been brisk and Kimball Office Booth 1809 is flooded with end users from many industries interested in our new product introductions.

On Wednesday, designer David Allan Pesso was busy all day giving demonstrations of his latest office innovation, Fluent.  It’s the perfect product solution to bridge the gap between private office and the open plan. Our popular Kimball Office | Interstuhl seating line was on hand, including the Mitos and Fit chair, which everyone seems to love – it’s never empty!

Also on Wednesday, our very own Elizabeth Hurley, Strategic Account Manager, was a speaker at a seminar about techniques to build stronger relationships between furniture representatives, dealers and designers.  Way to go, Liz!  And if that’s not enough, Kimball Office had the hottest after party with hot appetizers, entertainment, and a Martini bar!  All of our souvenir martini glasses were given away in the first hour!

  • Kimball Office to Host Social Media Club Chicago 1st Anniversary Event

By Kimball Office Social Media Team

This Thursday, our Chicago Showroom will be filled with Chicago’s social media elite, tapping, taking pics and tweeting as they make their way through our furniture-filled space on the Chicago River. It’s the Chicago Social Media Club‘s first anniversary, and as such, it’s time to celebrate with a 1st Anniversary party!

We’re thrilled to share our space with the Chicago Social Media Club chapter for a second year. Last year’s April Meet-up and SOBCon pre-event enjoyed a fantastic turn-out, and we’re excited to welcome the crowds again. Last year’s attendees: you may be surprised to see a seemingly brand-new space…we’ve added several new product lines to our showroom, including the stylish Fluent and the Kimball Office | Interstuhl chairs: Fit, Hero. Just for You., Mitos, Xantos, Axos and Silver, the ultimate executive seat.

So if you’re a Chicagoan, stop by our 325 North Wells Street location to see Ramon DeLeon and Sarah Evans speak on a “Communities and Social Media” panel with Katy Lynch from Where I’ve Been and Gerald Haman of SolutionPeople. There will be pizza and popcorn, so bring your appetite!

We’ll admit, we have a special affinity for some of Chicago’s social media gurus…SMC Chicago President @jwillie was our Kimball Office | Interstuhl Silver chair winner during our Chicago Showroom Event in June!

Kimball Office is active on a variety of social networking websites. But it’s not always easy to know where to look to find us. We’re always working to make things easy for you, so we’ve added a few new tools!

    Picture 11

On your left, there’s this new box. It’s where you can sign up to receive our blog posts via email, so that you don’t have to keep coming back to see what’s new at Kimball Office. It’s easy. All you have to do is enter your email and click “Subscribe,” and you’re all set!

If you glance a little below that box, you’ll see our Recent Tweets. We’ve added our Twitter feed to the blog so that even those of you who haven’t joined Twitter yet can see what’s happening with @kimballoffice. If you’re already on Twitter, just click that little blue Twitter icon below our tweets to start following us!

Movin’ on down the left side…we’ve added our Facebook fan page feed! I’m going to guess that most of you are already on Facebook. With more than 200 million people on Facebook worldwide, you could say it’s pretty popular. So if you’re on Facebook, get connected with Kimball Office!

Picture 17Let’s hop over to the right. Under the keywords, you can see previews of our Flickr stream. Click on those photos to see all of our pics. We have more than 700 photos on Flickr, and we’re always adding new ones, so if you’re curious about products or want to see if you’re in one of our event photos, stop on by!

Since photos don’t move and talk, we decided to throw some videos in the mix. If you follow our blog, you’ve seen several video posts along the way. To make it easy to find all of our videos, we’ve added our Vimeo stream right there underneath the Flickr photos on the right.

We hope these changes make it easier to connect with Kimball Office in social media. Let us know what you think!

  • Trends: Government Workplace Design

Government workplaces are traditionally thought of as…well, traditional. To find out if that’s really the case, I talked to Reggie Staples, Government Sales Manager for the Midwest and National IPA Program Manager at Kimball Office.

KO: How are federal government offices different from commercial offices?

RS: Federal government officials have a tough job. Budgets are tight, every decision is scrutinized and zero profit is required. And still, they have to make tremendous returns on their investments. Government procurement officers are responsible for purchasing everything for an office using taxpayer money, so they have to put every sizable project out to bid through an RFP process to prove they’ve made the best decision.

KO: Does the RFP process slow down projects?

RS: Sure. The sales process takes a long time in the government sector. There are a lot of things to consider. First and foremost, you need to prove you can meet all of the requested product specifications. Product value needs to be outstanding – a significant quantity of the product needs to come from the United States, end-users need to give input and approve designs, products have to have to meet stringent testing from outside agencies to confirm lifetime value – how long will it last? There are very specific requirements in most government RFPs. A lot of details need to be considered to ensure taxpayer dollars are wisely spent.

KO: How does that process affect design?

RS: Well, most government procurement officers are usually receptive to a lot of new designs, but it takes more time to go through the Read more…
