Kimball Office Jasper & Salem Accepted into the Environmental Stewardship Program

Kimball Office is honored to announce that its two Indiana manufacturing facilities, located in Jasper and Salem, have been accepted into the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s (IDEM) Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP). The program recognizes companies for demonstrating long-term compliance with environmental laws and voluntarily agreeing to implement continuous improvements in sustainability.
“It is an honor for our Jasper and Salem facilities to be recognized for their consistent and continual efforts with our environmental management system,” said Jeff Fenwick, Vice President and General Manager for Kimball Office, following a presentation by IDEM officials.
Kimball Office’s manufacturing facilities earned this recognition by surpassing IDEM’s environmental regulatory guidelines. Kimball Office-Jasper has eliminated 51,593 pounds of solid waste, since 2008 by encouraging vendors to reduce packaging use and decreasing scrap from its cut-to-size operations. Kimball Office-Salem has reduced its solid waste by more than 47 percent, or 218,420 pounds, since 2007.
“Kimball Office has certainly earned its place as a new ESP member,” said IDEM Commissioner Thomas Easterly. ESP members voluntarily eliminate waste, preserve resources and protect their employees and the environment. The ESP is recognition for going beyond the basic requirements of the law.
To become an ESP member, a business must maintain an exemplary compliance record, certify that it has adopted and implemented an approved environmental management system, and commit to specific measures for continued improvement in its environmental performance. To maintain ESP membership, companies must report on their environmental initiatives every year and reapply for ESP membership every three years.

Kimball Office and Earth Day celebrate 40 years of excellence! To celebrate our 40th birthday and Earth Day’s 40th anniversary, Kimball Office donated 40 trees to 40 communities across the country.
The Kimball Office team in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX area made great use of their 40 trees. The team planted the trees at various Catholic Charities non-profit organizations across the D/FW metroplex. The trees will be nurtured and monitored, and will be replanted at various locations in the future.
The team created photo albums so that recipients of the trees could follow the growth of their tree until it’s transplanted to the final location. The photo album had a picture of the Kimball Office team and explained the planting and transplanting process.

Warm coats, warm hearts…San Francisco sales team heads charity event

By Kimball Office Social Media Team

‘Tis the season for giving! Kimball Office’s San Francisco sales team just completed a charity event with Compass Community Services to collect donations for blankets, jackets, and coats. The donations were given to the people in the community that Compass helps and supports every day. The team’s goal was to substantially donate to Compass Community Services what they need most for the winter months.

The holiday season is a time to appreciate our family and friends and the warmth of our homes. Compass Community Services is an organization that reaches out to the community and offers direct support to those less fortunate, providing simple necessities like a warm blanket or coat.
A total of 15 A&D firms (listed below), as well as Bay-area dealer Resource and Design, donated over 250 items to the event. With such a great response, our San Fran team has made this an annual event and will continue to support Compass in the future. Great job to all who particpated in this wonderful charity event. We hope your warm hearts are contagious!

Branding by Design – How to Customize an Office Without Buying Custom Furniture

By Kimball Office Social Media Team
Custom furniture can be complicated. But offices should be unique, personalized…branded for each company, right? What if there was a way to customize an office without having to design and purchase custom furniture? What if you could do more than just select the colors, fabrics and materials? How would that work?
To find out, I talked to Jill Weidenbenner, Product Modifications Team Manager at Kimball Office.

Jill Weidenbenner, Product Modifications Team Manager
KO: What is the product modifications team?
JW: All requests for modifications on our standard products come through our team. We develop quotes on specials, or modified products, then work with our our suppliers and manufacturing facilities to achieve our clients’ requests.
KO: Why is it better to make a modification instead of creating a custom product?
JW: Creating a new design or standard product requires expensive engineering and design work. Our modification team has the flexibility to help clients’ meet their immediate needs without incurring the expense or time associated with developing a completely new design. Our goal isn’t to create a completely custom product; we make modifications that alter standard products, allowing clients to create the vision they see for their office space.
KO: What’s the main difference between custom and modified products?
JW: It’s often difficult to understand the difference between custom and modified (or special) products. We think of ‘custom’ as starting from scratch. Modifications are changes to an existing product that make it unique.
KO: Have you ever had modifications you can’t make?
JW: If, for some reason, we can’t find a resource that will allow us to make a modification, we’ll suggest Read more…
