Who doesn’t need a little stress relief after tax time? The Kimball Office DC Showroom hosted a Tax Relief party and invited designers, brokers, and general contractors to the 9th annual event. Washington Group Sales, our Select Dealer partner, along with ICE and Mohawk sponsored the event.
This year, donations (of money and shoes) were accepted to further promote Kimball Office’s effort to support Souls4Souls. Soles4Souls is a nonprofit charity based in Nashville, TN and has provided over 14 million pairs of new or gently worn shoes to people in need. Thank you to everyone who donated, as the Tax Relief event raised $450 and collected over 200 pairs of shoes.
Designers were asked to create their own sustainability themed shoe from our newly introduced Vision Collection. 15 design firms participated, and the grand prize winner was Intec for their creative use of Kimball Office textiles in conjunction with natural grass.
Thanks to everyone who joined our DC Showroom team and had a relief-filled night with great food, great networking…and all for a great cause.

Spring is in the air! Select Dealer, Commercial Environments in Knoxville, recently hosted a BIFMA level CEU on sustainability. Commercial Environments put their decorations and tableware where their mouths were…and impressed guests with “green” beauty.
Over 40 designers were greeted with table settings from recycled materials or materials that would be recycled after the event. The plates were made from recycled bamboo that were returned to the manufacturer to be recycled again after the event. Fabric napkins were tied with raffia, and even the tulip centerpieces were planted after the event.

ASID and IIDA members attended the CEU. Villa lounge seating was on display and used during the CEU event. The new showroom of Commercial Environments was also a highlight for those attending the CEU.
Congrats to Commercial Environments for hosting such a great event and breaking in your new showroom space!

To celebrate our 40th birthday and Earth Day’s 40th anniversary, Kimball Office is donating 40 trees to 40 communities across the country. Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri made great use of their trees and planted them around the school’s soccer field. 35 trees were planted on the outside of the fence that circles the field and 5 trees were planted in their nursery to be transplanted at a later date.

Maryville University planted donated trees around school's soccer field.
Students and faculty from Maryville were very grateful to have the trees and are looking forward to how the area looks in years to come. Interior Design students and various faculty members, along with participants from Select Dealer Interiors Unlimited, and our very own Michele Helsel got their hands dirty putting these trees in the ground. Everyone enjoyed the experience and had fun while making our planet a greener place to live. Thanks to the students, faculty, Interiors Unlimited, and Michele Helsel for taking the time to celebrate Kimball Office’s birthday along with Earth Day.

Kimball Office and Earth Day – Making our world better for 40 Years!

To celebrate our 40th birthday and recognize Earth Day’s 40th anniversary, during April, Kimball Office is donating 40 trees to 40 communities across the country. Watch the video and learn more about the activities!
Kimball Office Field Sales representatives, showrooms, and many Select Dealers across the country will plant around 1,600 trees from California to Massachusetts. This extension of the company’s Trees for Tomorrow program continues to lay roots for a greener tomorrow. Through the years, Kimball Office has provided its employees and our ever-growing communities with over 362,000 trees to be planted across the nation.
Kimball Office, founded in 1970, inherited an advocacy for forestry management and dedication to the environment from its parent company, Kimball International. With four successful decades under the company’s belt, Kimball Office maintains its commitment of designing and manufacturing environmentally friendly office furniture.

“Originally founded as a wood products manufacturer, Kimball Office has always been connected to the environment. From day one, we began applying and encouraging sustainable business practices; it’s fitting that we’re sharing our 40th anniversary with Earth Day’s 40th,” said Jeff Fenwick, Vice President and General Manager at Kimball Office. “40 years ago, when our company started, we set out to develop the most environmentally-responsible, quality office furniture. Everyday we strive to find new ways to reduce our carbon footprint.”
On April 9th, Kimball Office employees also donated time and sweat in honor of Earth Day, to help with upkeep at the Arnold F. Habig Community and Older Americans Center. The Arnold F. Habig Community and Older Americans Center is located in Jasper, Indiana, home of the Kimball Office Corporate Headquarters.
Large trees and rose bushes were planted at the site, gardens were weeded and cleaned for new spring growth, and flower beds and an 1/3 mile walking path were re-mulched with nearly two semi truckloads of mulch.
“From the renewable materials used in our products, to the corporate recycling center we share with our parent company, Kimball Office is a well rounded corporate partner and citizen,” said Fenwick. “Our employees and partners throughout the country look forward to servicing their communities in honor of the environment.”
An educational use for discontinued fabric

Why recycle something when you can re-use it, right? When Kimball Office employee Kevin Mehringer (from our Jasper, Indiana office) heard about a quantity of discontinued fabric being sent away for recycling, an idea occurred to him. He contacted local seamstress and volunteer worker, Shirley Rogers, to see if she could use the fabric. A short phone call later, Shirley took all of it!
Seems Shirley had an idea that would brighten some local elementary school classrooms, improve their organization, and boost the children’s productivity! She used the fabric to make 80 chair pockets for the backs of the students’ chairs. With some creative measuring and strategic sewing, now the kids have a neat, out-of-the-way place to store notebooks, pencils, glue, erasers, and anything else that might clutter their desks.
The kids liked their chair pockets so much that they sent Kevin a “Thank You” card signed by the whole class. The teachers love the improved organization of the classroom and the kids learned a valuable lesson in recycling and sustainability. Gotta start ‘em young, right? Special thanks to Shirley Rogers for her donation of time and creativity to this project. We hear she is also working on tote bags, pencil bags, floor runners, and even costumes made out of discontinued fabrics! Way to go!
