Jason Hoffman, Senior IT Application Developer
Yesterday, I sat down with Jason Hoffman, Senior IT Application Developer at Kimball Office for a chance to get to know one of the guys behind the development of KimballOffice.com.
KO: What brought you to Kimball Office?
JH: I grew up here, then went to ISU to major in computer science. I attended a job fair at ISU looking for a summer internship, and Kimball Office was there. I got the internship, then interned with them every summer throughout college. By graduation, I knew this is where I wanted to be full-time.
KO: What’s your favorite Kimball Office product?
SR: It’d have to be the Skye chair. I used to have one before we moved into our new office building, and it was the most comfortable chair I’ve ever sat in.
KO: What would you say is your most memorable Kimball Office moment?
JH: Well, if we’re just choosing one moment, I’d have to say a Christmas party we held. It had a Casino Night theme, and I had a great time playing craps, even if it wasn’t for real money. But really, most of my fun memories come from when IT was a shared resource. We haven’t been Kimball Office IT for very long – we used to be an IT team that worked on all Kimball International projects and websites. It was fun having all of the developers and business analysts in one spot. I love being at Kimball Office, but there are some guys that are now in other IT departments that I miss having around.
KO: What is one thing you cannot do without in your workspace?
JH: My Zune. I probably listen to it about 4 hours a day, whenever I’m not in meetings.
KO: What do you listen to?
JH: Anything but country. Ironically, that’s what’s on most of the radio stations around here!
KO: What’s something that not too many people know about you?
JH: Hmm, that’s a tough one. How about the fact that I minored in philosophy, an odd choice for a computer science major.
KO: Is there anyone in particular you’d like to thank for making your job better every day?
JH: Joe Huddleston. We’re the only two web developers, so Joe makes my job much easier. If I’m not working on it, Joe is, and vice versa. I do more of the back-end development, and Joe does more of the front-end, the stuff you experience when you visit a site. He puts the spit’n'polish on our work.
KO: If you could add any office product to your office, what would you add?
JH: I’d like to add more computer monitors. Maybe a couple of widescreen ones. And while we’re at it, an Xbox too.
KO: Before I let you go, tell me: what is your favorite thing about working at Kimball Office?
JH: We’re a small development shop, so we have the opportunity to work on a lot of things that bigger organizations would dedicate specialists toward. You get to have a little bit of everything working here, and I like that. It also doesn’t hurt that I live about two minutes away from work (right down the street from Joe)!
