By Kimball Office Social Media Team

Have you heard our news!??! Now, 100% of our Kimball Office manufactured products are ANSI/BIFMA level 2 or 3 Certified! If you’re looking for eco-friendly products, Kimball Office is your answer! From casegoods to systems, and tables to seating, Kimball Office has you covered.

“By offering level 3 furniture in all major product categories, more than any other manufacturer, we are able to provide the market with solutions that meet growing demand for green standards. Our team has worked extremely hard to ensure we meet and exceed BIFMA’s standards for product development, manufacturing, and corporate responsibility.” Georgy Olivieri, Director of Architecture, Design, and Sustainable Strategies, LEED AP.

The BIFMA level certification program evaluates the environmental aspects of product manufacturing throughout the supply chain. Many layers of the process are reviewed, including general areas of materials and energy usage. The effects on human and ecosystem health are examined as well as overall corporate social responsibility. There are three levels of conformance, with each requiring specific prerequisites and optional credits. Level 3 is the highest level of certification.

For specifics on the products and levels, visit our Fact Sheet.  Kimball Office products can also be found on www.ecoScorecard.com for a quick and simple way to research sustainable products and download documentation for green building programs such as LEED.

To celebrate our 40th birthday and recognize Earth Day’s 40th anniversary, during April, Kimball Office is donating 40 trees to 40 communities across the country. Watch the video and learn more about the activities!

Kimball Office Field Sales representatives, showrooms, and many Select Dealers across the country will plant around 1,600 trees from California to Massachusetts. This extension of the company’s Trees for Tomorrow program continues to lay roots for a greener tomorrow. Through the years, Kimball Office has provided its employees and our ever-growing communities with over 362,000 trees to be planted across the nation.

Kimball Office, founded in 1970, inherited an advocacy for forestry management and dedication to the environment from its parent company, Kimball International. With four successful decades under the company’s belt, Kimball Office maintains its commitment of designing and manufacturing environmentally friendly office furniture.

Kimball Office Employees Donate Time for Earth Day Event

“Originally founded as a wood products manufacturer, Kimball Office has always been connected to the environment. From day one, we began applying and encouraging sustainable business practices; it’s fitting that we’re sharing our 40th anniversary with Earth Day’s 40th,” said Jeff Fenwick, Vice President and General Manager at Kimball Office. “40 years ago, when our company started, we set out to develop the most environmentally-responsible, quality office furniture. Everyday we strive to find new ways to reduce our carbon footprint.”

Kimball Office Employees Planting TreesOn April 9th, Kimball Office employees also donated time and sweat in honor of Earth Day, to help with upkeep at the Arnold F. Habig Community and Older Americans Center. The Arnold F. Habig Community and Older Americans Center is located in Jasper, Indiana, home of the Kimball Office Corporate Headquarters.

Large trees and rose bushes were planted at the site, gardens were weeded and cleaned for new spring growth, and flower beds and an 1/3 mile walking path were re-mulched with nearly two semi truckloads of mulch.

“From the renewable materials used in our products, to the corporate recycling center we share with our parent company, Kimball Office is a well rounded corporate partner and citizen,” said Fenwick. “Our employees and partners throughout the country look forward to servicing their communities in honor of the environment.”

  • Kimball Office Wins Innovation Silver Award at IIDEX
    Posted: 09.24.09
    By Andrea Rohleder

We headed north this week, excited to participate in IIDEX Canada. Little did we know we’d be a hit – winning a coveted Innovation Silver award for Fluent! IIDEX Innovation awards honor excellence in product designs that demonstrate problem solving, budget strategy, environmental responsiveness and marketing objectives.

    3628769765_41845e4a2b1

Fluent, our newest product line, was designed to bring flexibility, luxury and sophisticated design to any workplace. Designer David Allan Pesso worked with our team to develop a desking solution that goes from private office to open plan with ease. At our Chicago Showroom Event in June, Fluent was hailed as being “better than European design.” We won’t argue whether it’s better, but we can agree that Fluent is one gorgeous product.

    3628966523_8d3fd904cf

It’s also a sustainable product. You didn’t think we’d design something beautiful without considering its environmental impact, did you? As a Kimball Office product, Fluent is BIFMA level certified, and features our proprietary Pura UV finish. It’s also certified to meet the USGBC LEED indoor air quality requirements and has an available option of FSC certified wood.

We’re thrilled to win this award – thank you IIDEX for sharing the honor!

  • Behind the Scenes: The UV Treatment Process
    Posted: 07.23.09
By Kimball Office Social Media Team

Our newest product, Fluent, is one of several Kimball Office products that uses a proprietary UV treatment process that eliminates volatile organic compounds (VOCs), reducing our products’ environmental impact and improving indoor air quality. But I’ll admit, when I think UV, I think sunscreen. What is the UV process? How does it work?

Sam Ruckriegel, Director of Finish and Wood Technology

Sam Ruckriegel, Director of Finish and Wood Technology

To get the scoop firsthand, I talked to Sam Ruckriegel, the mastermind behind the UV implementation in our Jasper, IN manufacturing facilities and the planned installation at our Salem, IN facility. As the Director of Finish and Wood Technology, Sam has a wealth of knowledge about why we selected the equipment, the process and our future endeavors.

KO: Why did Kimball Office decide to implement the Pura UV treatment process?

SR: Before sustainability was a household word, Kimball Office was looking at ways to meet and exceed our industry’s sustainability standards. Kimball’s team knew that it was important to continue to strive to reduce emissions, VOCs and off-gassing to reduce our furniture’s impact on the environment. One of those initiatives was UV treatment. Kimball actually sought me out as a contractor to help them get started, and when my contract expired, I joined the team full-time.

KO: So tell me, how does it work?

SR: There are two types of UV finish that we use. One is a water-based spray. It doesn’t have any harmful chemicals – it’s a water-borne carrying agent for fluids. The other is 100 percent solid…in liquid form. Try to wrap your mind around that! If you want to get technical, it’s Read more…

  • Kimball Office Receives level Certification for Entire Product Portfolio
    Posted: 07.01.09
By Kimball Office Social Media Team

We’re excited to announce that we’ve just received level certification for our entire product portfolio! Kimball Office is one of the first organizations to be awarded level certification, a third-party validation of the BIFMA e3 sustainability standard, for an entire product portfolio.

    kmbl_manu-3351

Before I get ahead of myself, let me explain what the sustainability standard is and why level certification is such an honor. BIFMA is the trade association for the commercial furniture industry. The e3 sustainability standard was developed for office furniture manufacturers and suppliers. The standard is holistic, addressing every aspect of a product’s life cycle, including raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, usage, reuse (or recycling) and disposal.

Just like LEED, level certification requires certain prerequisites, optional credits and conformance levels. You can earn credits in four categories:

    • Materials
    • Energy and atmosphere
    • Human and ecosystem health
    • Social responsibility
